Cheap flights from Warsaw to Stockholm

October is the cheapest month on this route, so if your dates are flexible, start there. Fares tend to climb around Christmas and New Year, when Poles and Swedes travel home in both directions, and again during the Swedish midsummer period. Midweek departures, especially Tuesday and Wednesday, usually cost less than Friday evenings and Sunday returns. September and November sit close to October in price and make good fallbacks when your first choice is gone. Book a few weeks ahead for the low-cost carriers, and watch the price calendar for a dip.

Ryanair and Wizz Air are the low-cost names here, with tight baggage rules and paid seat selection. Norwegian and Norwegian International fly the Nordic side, Finnair and Nordic Regional Airlines add northern connections, and KLM Cityhopper, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Austrian bring full-service fares with luggage and food included. Mokulele Flight Service also appears in the results. Direct seats are limited to a few carriers; most of the rest sell connecting itineraries through a hub, so check whether your ticket covers one flight or two.

Stockholm has two airports in the results. Arlanda is the main gateway, north of the city, with express trains, commuter trains and coaches running into the centre through the day. Skavsta International sits well outside Stockholm to the south-west and is served mainly by coach, so add time at both ends if you land there. Check which airport your fare uses before you arrange a transfer, since the two are far apart and a cheap seat into Skavsta can mean a long ride into town.

• Check which Warsaw airport your departure uses, because F. Chopin and Modlin sit on opposite sides of the city.
• On Ryanair and Wizz Air, add a cabin bag to the fare before you pay, or the gate price will surprise you.
• If your ticket connects through a hub, keep both legs on one booking so a delay is covered.
• Carry a valid passport or identity card for Sweden and check its expiry date.
• Compare October fares against September and November, since shifting your dates often pays off.
• Decide early between Arlanda and Skavsta International, as the transfer into Stockholm differs a lot.
