Cheap flights from Warsaw to Sibiu

April is the month to aim for: it is where fares sit lowest on this route, and it is one of the months the price calendar covers, along with September, October, November, December and January. Spring and early autumn tend to be quieter for travel between Poland and Romania, while December and January bring the Christmas and New Year rush, when seats go early and connections fill. Midweek departures are usually quieter than weekend ones, and because every itinerary involves a change, a morning start leaves you more room if the first leg runs late. Book a few weeks ahead if you can — the connecting legs sell out first, and April dates go early.

None of the airlines on this route are low-cost. LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Austrian, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Air Dolomiti are full-service carriers, so you are buying into a network rather than a bare ticket. Every Warsaw–Sibiu itinerary connects, and what separates them is where you change, how long the layover is and which fare you choose. What comes with the fare — a cabin bag, a checked bag, seat selection — varies, so read the conditions instead of assuming. If you would rather start with a Polish carrier, LOT Polish Airlines is the one on this list.

Sibiu has one airport, also named Sibiu, and it sits close to the city rather than far out in the countryside, so the ride into the centre is short. Taxis and ride-hailing apps wait at arrivals and local buses run into town; agree the fare before you get in or make sure the meter is running. Because every itinerary from Warsaw involves a change, ask at the first check-in whether your bag is tagged through to Sibiu. If the legs are on separate tickets, you collect your bag and check it in again yourself, which needs more time between flights. The terminal is small, so arrivals and departures move quickly.

• Decide whether you leave from F. Chopin or Modlin, because Warsaw's two airports are far apart and the choice changes your trip to the first one.
• Check where your connection goes and how long the layover is, since no airline flies Warsaw to Sibiu non-stop.
• If your trip is split across two separate tickets, remember that a missed connection is yours to fix, not the airline's.
• Look at what the fare includes before you compare — a checked bag or seat selection can decide which ticket is really cheaper.
• Carry a valid passport or ID card for Romania and check the entry rules before you fly.
• Book April dates early if your plans are flexible, since that is when fares on this route sit lowest.
