Cheap flights from Warsaw to Naples

October is the cheapest month on this route, and it also happens to be a good time to be in Campania: the summer crowds have gone and the weather is still mild. Summer is the busy stretch, with July and August filling up early, and the Christmas and New Year weeks bring a second rush as people travel to see family. Spring and late autumn work well for sightseeing in either city. If your dates are flexible, midweek departures tend to give you more choice than weekend ones, and booking early matters most for the summer and holiday periods.

Low-cost carriers do most of the direct flying here: Ryanair, Wizz Air and Wizz Air Malta are the names you see most often, with Norwegian also in the mix. On these tickets the fare covers your seat and a small cabin bag, and everything else, from checked luggage to seat selection, costs extra. Full-service airlines such as LOT Polish Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France, Scandinavian Airlines and Aegean Airlines usually mean a connection through a hub, but they include a checked bag and can rebook you when a leg is delayed. Mokulele Flight Service also appears among the options. Check what is included before comparing fares.

Flights land at Capodichino Airport, which sits close to Naples rather than out in the countryside, so the transfer into the centre is short by Italian standards. The usual ways in are the airport bus, which drops you near the main station and the port, a taxi, or a shuttle plus metro if you are heading further out. Book taxis at the official rank or through an app rather than with someone who approaches you inside the terminal. If you are continuing to the Amalfi coast, Sorrento or the islands, leave time between your flight and your onward connection, because roads and ferries slow down in high season.

• Decide whether you are flying from F. Chopin or Modlin, because they are separate airports with different transfer times.
• Check the baggage allowance on a low-cost ticket, since a cabin bag is often the only thing included.
• If your trip is split across separate tickets, leave a generous gap in case the first flight is delayed.
• Confirm your passport or identity card is valid for travel to Italy and meets the entry rules.
• Book early for summer and the Christmas period, and look at October if you want to pay less.
• Compare the total cost of a direct low-cost ticket with a connecting full-service one before you choose.
