Cheap flights from Warsaw to Mogadishu

November is the cheapest month in the price calendar, and fares also show up for September, October, December, March and June. Late autumn tends to be quieter, while June and December fall in the school-holiday stretch, when seats go faster and cost more. Midweek departures from Warsaw are usually lighter than weekend ones, and on a long connecting trip it pays to leave early in the week so a delay on the first leg does not cost you the second. Book a few weeks ahead rather than at the last minute — the connecting legs fill up well before departure.

No airline flies this route non-stop, so every option is a connecting itinerary, usually through a Gulf or East African hub. Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Lufthansa, Austrian and LOT Polish Airlines are the full-service names in the mix, with the frills and the fare rules that come with them. Fly Dubai and Braathens Regional Aviation sit at the lighter end, and Air Dolomiti appears as a regional operator on some connections. What you get for the money differs sharply between the two ends, so read the fare conditions, especially baggage and changes, before you choose.

Aden Adde International is the airport you land at, and the only one serving Mogadishu on these itineraries. It sits on the city side rather than far out, so the transfer into the centre is a short drive. Arrange that transfer before you fly — a hotel pickup or a contact you trust is easier than finding a ride at the kerb after a long journey. Keep your address and a working phone number with you, and confirm the pickup again once your connecting flights are settled. If you land late, check that your hotel can still check you in.

• Decide whether you leave from F. Chopin or Modlin — Warsaw has two airports and they are not interchangeable.
• Check the baggage rules on the lightest fares, since a long connecting trip often puts you on a second carrier with its own limits.
• Make sure a connecting itinerary is on one ticket, or leave plenty of time between separate bookings.
• Confirm your entry documents for Somalia before you pay, and check that your passport has enough validity left.
• Watch the price calendar: November is the cheapest month, while June and December cost more.
• Arrange your transfer in Mogadishu before you land rather than sorting it out on the ground.
