Cheap flights from Warsaw to Kosice

February is when fares on this route tend to sit at their lowest, and the price calendar shows that dip clearly. Outside the winter window, spring and early autumn are the steady middle ground, while the summer months and the run-up to Christmas cost more. Midweek departures usually undercut Friday and Sunday flights, when weekend traffic peaks. Keep an eye on Polish and Slovak public holidays, when both ends of the route fill up, and book a few weeks ahead if you are travelling around Easter or the winter break.

Wizz Air is the low-cost name on this route, and its fare covers the seat and little else, so baggage, seat choice and airport check-in come on top. LOT Polish Airlines is the full-service option, with a simpler fare structure and the usual inclusions bundled in. The rest, Austrian, Air Dolomiti, Swiss, Helvetic Airways, Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines and Air Baltic, generally mean a connection rather than a direct flight, which adds travel time but can open up cheaper combinations. Compare the total with your bags added, not just the headline fare.

Kosice is served by Barca airport, which sits close to the city rather than out in open country, so the transfer into the centre is short. Taxis and local buses both run from the terminal, and because the airport is small you are usually through arrivals quickly. If you land late, sort your ride before you fly, as options thin out after the last scheduled arrivals. Leaving Warsaw, check whether your departure is from F. Chopin or Modlin, since the two airports sit on opposite sides of the city and moving between them takes real time.

• Check whether your Warsaw departure is from F. Chopin or Modlin before you book, since the two airports are far apart.
• On Wizz Air, add baggage and seat fees to the fare so you see the real total.
• If your itinerary connects, keep both legs on one ticket so a delay does not leave you stranded.
• Check the document rules for your nationality, as Schengen travel does not cover every passport.
• Book early for February if you want the lowest fares, and compare midweek against weekend departures.
• Match your arrival at Barca against the last bus into Kosice if you are landing in the evening.
