Cheap flights from Warsaw to Ayers Rock

December comes out cheapest on this route, and the months with fares loaded run from September through January and again in April, so late autumn and the southern summer are where the value sits. December is also peak season at Uluru, with Christmas crowds and Australian school holidays pushing demand up, so book that month well ahead. The outback dry season keeps interest high through the middle of the year. Midweek departures from Warsaw are usually quieter than weekend ones, so if your dates are flexible, compare a Tuesday or Wednesday against a Friday before you commit.

The carriers flying this route are Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Fly Dubai, Finnair, British Airways and LOT Polish Airlines. None of them fly it non-stop, so what separates them is where you change and how much is bundled into the fare. The full-service names, LOT, Finnair, British Airways, Turkish Airlines and the three Gulf carriers, generally include a checked bag and meals, while Fly Dubai is the low-cost option and is built around the seat alone, with extras added on top. Fewer stops usually means a longer single leg but a shorter total journey.

You land at Connellan, the airport serving Ayers Rock, which sits just outside Yulara, the small resort village where nearly all the accommodation is. It is a short drive from the terminal to the village rather than a trip into a large city, and shuttle transfers, taxis and hotel-run coaches are the usual ways in. Because everything here is remote and services are limited, it pays to have your transfer arranged before you land rather than sorting it out on arrival, and to keep water and sun protection within reach for the first hours outside.

• Check whether you fly from Chopin or Modlin, as Warsaw's two airports are far apart.
• Look at the baggage rules on the low-cost leg before you commit to a cheap fare.
• If the trip is split across separate tickets, leave a long buffer for the connection.
• Sort your Australian visa or travel authority before you pay for anything.
• Book December early, since it is both the cheapest and the busiest month here.
• Arrange your transfer from Connellan ahead of time, as ground options are limited.
