Cheap flights from Vilnius to Poznan

November is the cheapest month for this route, and it is the one to watch if your dates are flexible. Fares are also tracked across September, October, December, January and March, so you can compare late summer, autumn, the Christmas run and the quiet weeks after New Year. Midweek departures on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays usually cost less than Friday and Sunday flights, and early-morning connections tend to be quieter. Book a few weeks ahead for autumn and winter travel, and start looking earlier if you plan to fly around Christmas or New Year, when Poznan fills up with people heading home and the cheap seats go first.

Nobody flies Vilnius to Poznan nonstop, so every itinerary here is a connection, and the airline you pick mostly decides where you change planes. LOT Polish Airlines and Lufthansa are the names you will see most often, with Air Baltic, Swiss, Scandinavian Airlines, Finnair, Austrian and Brussels Airlines also selling the route, and Cityjet and Turkish Airlines appearing on some itineraries too. These are network carriers rather than budget airlines, but they sell different fare families on the same plane: a light fare may include only a cabin bag, while a higher fare adds a checked bag and seat selection. Read the fare rules and the total journey time before you choose.

Poznan Lawica is the airport for the city, and it sits close to the centre, so the ride into town is short rather than a long haul from the outskirts. Buses connect the terminal with the city, taxis and ride-hailing apps wait outside arrivals, and you are in the city soon after landing. Late arrivals are the thing to watch: if your connecting flight lands after the last buses, plan on a taxi. If you are continuing somewhere else, check which part of the terminal your onward flight leaves from, and keep your documents handy in case you need to pass through security again.

• Check your connection time at the hub, because a short layover leaves no room if the first flight runs late.
• Confirm whether both legs sit on one ticket, since separate bookings mean a missed connection is your problem to solve.
• Read the baggage allowance attached to your fare, as a light ticket may cover only a small cabin bag.
• Make sure your passport or ID card is valid for travel to Poland and the name matches your booking.
• Book November early if you want lower fares, and check the price calendar before you lock in dates.
• Compare fares to Krakow and Warsaw from Vilnius if your plans are flexible, then add the onward travel.
