Cheap flights from Vienna to Poznan

February is the cheapest month to fly this route, and the stretch from late autumn through early spring usually stays reasonable. Summer and the run-up to Christmas are busier, so fares climb when everyone else is travelling. Midweek departures tend to cost less than Friday or Sunday flights, and booking a few weeks ahead beats leaving it to the last minute. Watch Polish public holidays and Austrian school breaks, when seats on the connecting legs fill up first.

No budget carrier flies this route, so every option is a full-service or regional airline, and all of them connect rather than fly nonstop. LOT Polish Airlines is the Polish flag carrier and a natural pick if you route through Warsaw. Austrian and Lufthansa cover the German-speaking hubs, with Lufthansa Cityline, Air Dolomiti and Cityjet operating many of the shorter legs. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines sends you through Amsterdam, Scandinavian Airlines through the Nordics, while Braathens Regional Aviation and ITA Airways add further connections. What you pay for baggage, seat choice and changes depends on the fare type, not the airline name.

Poznan has one airport, Lawica, and it sits close to the city, so the transfer is a short ride rather than a long haul. Buses and taxis both run into the centre, and a taxi or ride-hailing car is the easy choice if you land late. The terminal is small, so passport checks and baggage usually move quickly. In Vienna, Schwechat Intl handles both Schengen and non-Schengen departures, so leave room for a passport check if your onward flight leaves the Schengen area.

• Check your connection time in Vienna, since there are no direct flights on this route.
• Confirm what your fare includes before you pay, because baggage and seat choice differ by ticket type.
• If you book the legs on separate tickets, the risk of a missed connection is yours, not the airline's.
• Carry a passport or national ID card, as Poland and Austria are both in the Schengen area and airlines check documents at the gate.
• Compare the price calendar across the whole autumn-to-spring window, with February usually the cheapest month.
• Arrange your transfer from Lawica in advance if you land after the last buses.
