Cheap flights from Varna to Krakow

October is the cheapest month on this route, and the fares listed for September, November, December and January stay close behind it. The summer months of May, June and July carry holiday demand from both sides, so book earlier if those are the dates you need. Midweek departures and early-morning or late-evening slots tend to cost less than Friday and Sunday returns. Watch Christmas and New Year if you fly in December, when seats on the popular days go first.

Wizz Air Malta and Ryanair are the low-cost names here, so expect a bare fare and read the cabin baggage rules before you pay. Bulgaria Air, Lufthansa, Austrian, Turkish Airlines, Air Serbia, Eurowings Discover and Edelweiss Air sell full-service tickets, which normally include a checked bag and a drink or a meal. El Al Israel Airlines also shows up on the route. A direct flight exists, but plenty of the itineraries on sale connect, so compare total journey time rather than departure time alone.

Krakow's airport is Balice, out to the west of the city rather than in the centre. Allow time for the ride in: buses and a rail link run between the terminal and the city, and a taxi is the quickest way if you land late at night. Ground transport thins out after the last arrivals, so check the timetable against your landing time before you commit to a ticket. The terminal itself is easy to navigate, and passport control for flights from Bulgaria is usually quick.

Country facts: Wikidata

• Varna has a single airport, so confirm the terminal and check-in time on your ticket before you set off.
• On Wizz Air Malta and Ryanair, add the cabin and checked baggage you actually need at the time of booking, not at the gate.
• If your itinerary connects, make sure both legs sit on one ticket, or leave a generous gap between separate bookings.
• Carry a valid passport or identity card for Poland and check the entry rules that apply to your nationality.
• Book October for the lowest fares, but compare September and November before you decide.
• Match your arrival at Balice against the last bus or train into the centre.
