Cheap flights from Urumqi to Shanghai

The expensive stretch runs through the summer months and the winter holiday period, when school breaks and festive travel push demand up, so fares are firmer then. Working back from that, the shoulder months are calmer, and November is the cheapest month named for this route. Weekday departures are usually easier to price than weekend ones, and booking further ahead helps in peak periods while later booking can work when demand is soft. Check the price calendar for your exact dates before you commit.

The route carries a mix of low-cost and full-service airlines, so the first thing to compare is what each fare includes rather than the headline price alone. Spring Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Juneyao Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Tianjin Airlines, Sky Jet Aviation Ltd, Air China and Air Astana all appear on this route, and direct flights are available as well as connecting itineraries. Because inclusions differ, check baggage, seat choice and meals on the exact fare before you book, and confirm whether your flight is direct or stops on the way.

Before you land, decide which Shanghai airport your trip needs, because Pudong International and Hongqiao International serve different sides of the city and use different onward transport. Both are linked to central Shanghai by metro and road connections, but the transfer you choose should follow from your arrival airport and your accommodation. Watch for a terminal or airport change if your itinerary connects onward, and allow time for baggage collection and finding your onward transport. Match your arrival airport to your final address rather than assuming they are interchangeable.
