Cheap flights from Urumqi to Munich

Demand on this route usually builds around school holidays, Christmas and Munich's summer, so fares climb when those periods overlap with your dates. October is the cheapest month in the listed fare calendar, with prices also shown for November through April. Book as soon as your dates are fixed, especially for December and January, and check both outbound and return days because a Tuesday or Wednesday departure can sit below a weekend one. If you can be flexible, compare the whole month rather than one weekend.

The airlines listed for this route are Uzbekistan Airways, Shanghai Airlines, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Air China, Juneyao Airlines, Air Astana, Xiamen Airlines and Sichuan Airlines. None of these airlines offers a nonstop flight, so every itinerary connects at least once. What changes between them is the routing, baggage allowance, meals, seat selection and change rules, so compare the total cost of the same journey rather than the first price. A longer connection can be cheaper, but only if the layover is protected on one ticket and the total travel day still works for you.

Getting into town from Munich International is usually straightforward: S-Bahn trains, buses and airport coaches all run into central Munich, and taxis or ride-hailing cover the same route at a higher cost. The airport is outside the city, so allow transfer time even when traffic is light. After a long connection, check which terminal you arrive at before choosing your onward transport, and keep your booking reference handy for any late-night changes.

• Check whether all flights are on one ticket, because separate tickets can leave you to recheck bags and clear immigration on your own.
• Confirm the connection time allows for a terminal change and any passport control.
• Check baggage rules for each carrier, since a low fare may exclude checked luggage.
• Verify passport and visa requirements for Germany, including any transit country you pass through.
• Compare October with the other months shown, and avoid school holidays or Christmas if your dates are flexible.
