Cheap flights from Rovaniemi to Krakow

November is the cheapest month on this route, and it is the one to watch if your dates are flexible. Fares are published for September through March, which covers the Lapland autumn, the polar winter and the first weeks of spring in Poland. Midweek departures usually cost less than Friday or Sunday flights, and the weeks around Christmas and New Year are the busiest of the season, so book those early. For a quieter and cheaper trip, aim for late autumn or the second half of January, once the holiday rush is over.

Finnair and its regional partner Nordic Regional Airlines feed the route from the north, while LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa City Airlines, Austrian, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines cover the classic hub connections through central Europe. Norwegian International and Easyjet fly the low-cost model, and Eurowings sits somewhere in between. Expect to change planes with every one of them, since nobody flies Rovaniemi to Krakow nonstop. On low-cost tickets a checked bag is usually an add-on, while full-service fares more often include one, so compare the total with your luggage, not just the seat.

You land at Balice, the airport that serves Krakow, and it sits outside the city rather than in it. A train and a bus both run between the terminal and the centre, and taxis and ride-hailing apps are easy to find at the arrivals exit. Allow time for the transfer if you are heading straight to a hotel or a meeting. In winter, snow and early darkness can slow the roads, so the rail link is the steadier choice when the weather turns. Check which terminal your flight uses before you arrange a pickup, and have a card or some local currency ready for the ticket machine.

• Confirm where your connection is and how long you have between flights, since no airline flies this route nonstop.
• Check what your fare includes for checked and cabin baggage, especially on the low-cost carriers.
• If you booked two separate tickets, leave a generous gap, because a missed connection is not protected.
• Make sure your passport or ID card is valid for travel to Poland and matches the name on the booking.
• Compare your dates across the months with published fares, as November is the cheapest month and the holiday weeks are not.
• Decide between a short layover and a longer one before you pick a fare, as total travel time varies a lot.
