Cheap flights from Rotterdam to Athens

The expensive stretch runs through summer and the winter holiday period, when fewer seats are left at lower fares. School holidays in the Netherlands and Greece can raise prices outside those peaks too. Working back from there, September is the cheapest month in the data for this route, and midweek departures are usually cheaper than weekend ones. Book peak dates early and compare several September dates if your plans are flexible.

The difference you feel first is between a nonstop flight and one that changes aircraft, because one gets you to Athens faster while the other may open up a lower fare or a different departure time. Direct flights are available on the route, while other itineraries in the list may connect through another city. Transavia Airlines, Aegean Airlines, Pegasus, BA CityFlyer, British Airways and Air Algerie all appear in the fare lists, so the mix is wide rather than one type of carrier. Check the fare rules before you book, since baggage, seat selection, changes and refreshments are handled differently by each airline and sometimes by fare type.

Arrange your transfer before you land, because Eleftherios Venizelos sits outside Athens and the last leg into the centre takes longer than the map suggests. The airport is Athens' main airport, and metro, suburban rail, express buses and taxis are the usual ways into the city. Check your terminal, the arrival time and where you are staying before you choose a route, since a late arrival can narrow your options. Also confirm that every segment of your booking names Eleftherios Venizelos, so you do not end up at a different Athens airport.
