Cheap flights from Poznan to Sofia

November is the cheapest month on this route, and the price calendar shows fares easing from September through the autumn before climbing again around the winter holidays. October and November are quiet, grey and cheap; December and January fill up with people heading home for the holidays. May brings warmer weather and higher prices, so book early if that is your window. Midweek departures on Tuesday and Wednesday usually cost less than Friday or Sunday flights, and booking a few weeks ahead beats leaving it to the last minute.

Wizz Air is the low-cost name on this route, so the fare covers little beyond a seat and a small bag unless you add extras. The rest of the connections come from full-service carriers: LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa with its regional partners Lufthansa Cityline and Air Dolomiti, Swiss, ITA Airways and Scandinavian Airlines. On those tickets a cabin bag and a drink are usually part of the deal, and the change at a hub airport tends to be longer but easier. Nothing flies nonstop from Lawica to Sofia Airport, so every option means at least one connection.

Sofia Airport is the only airport serving the Bulgarian capital, and it sits close to the city rather than far out, so the transfer into town is short. The metro is the simplest way in and puts you near the centre; buses and taxis cover the same trip above ground. Taxis are the classic trap here, so use an official rank or a ride app instead of a driver who approaches you in the arrivals hall. If you land late, check the last metro and bus times before you count on public transport.

• Check that all legs sit on one ticket, or a missed connection becomes your problem rather than the airline's.
• Check the baggage rules on Wizz Air fares, where a cabin bag and a checked bag are paid extras.
• Check your passport validity and Bulgaria's entry rules before you book, not the week you fly.
• Check the connection time at the hub, since a tight change with a checked bag is where trips go wrong.
• Check the price calendar for November, the cheapest month, and compare it with May if you want warmer weather.
