Cheap flights from Poznan to Cairo

April is the cheapest month for fares on this route, and it is also when Cairo is at its most comfortable — warm days, cool evenings, before the summer heat sets in. Autumn and winter are priced too, and they are the months most people from Poland pick for a Nile-side break. June and August have no fares listed yet, so if you need high summer, check back later. Midweek departures from Lawica tend to cost less than weekend ones, and Polish school holidays push fares up on both sides of the break. Book a few months ahead for spring travel.

Nobody flies this route non-stop, so what you are really choosing between is a set of full-service network carriers and their regional arms. LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France, Swiss and Scandinavian Airlines all sell Poznan to Cairo itineraries with a change of plane in the middle. Lufthansa Cityline, KLM Cityhopper and Air Dolomiti show up on the shorter feeder legs of those same journeys. Fly Dubai is the outlier, routing travellers through its Gulf base instead of a European hub. Fare bundles differ, so check what each ticket includes before you compare totals; on separate tickets, nothing is protected if a leg is delayed.

Your flight lands at Cairo International, the city's main gateway and the only airport serving this route. It sits northeast of the centre, beyond the ring road, so treat the transfer as a real part of the journey rather than a quick hop. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are the usual way in; a hotel transfer is the calmest choice if you land late, and the public buses are slow with luggage. Check which terminal your flight arrives at before you arrange a pickup, and confirm the fare before you get in. Carry some Egyptian pounds in cash for that first ride.

• Check your connection time before you book, since every Poznan to Cairo itinerary involves a change of plane.
• Make sure both legs sit on one ticket, so a missed connection is covered rather than your own cost.
• Compare what each fare includes, because baggage rules differ between the European carriers and Fly Dubai.
• Sort your Egyptian visa and passport validity before you fly, and keep a copy of the booking offline.
• Fly in April if your dates are flexible, and watch for Polish school holidays pushing fares up.
