Cheap flights from Paris to Gdansk

September is the month when fares on this route tend to sit lowest, and the price calendar runs right through the year, so you can scan the whole stretch in one go. Summer and the Christmas period fill up faster and cost more, while late autumn and the stretch after New Year are quieter. Midweek departures usually beat Friday and Sunday flights, and it pays to book well ahead for school holidays in France and Poland.

Ryanair, Easyjet, Transavia France and Wizz Air Malta are the low-cost names you will see most often on this route, and they usually sell a seat with a small cabin bag and charge for anything extra. Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines and LOT Polish Airlines are the full-service carriers, where a checked bag and a seat choice often come with the ticket. Vueling Airlines and Norwegian also appear on the route, and some of these airlines fly Paris to Gdansk direct while others sell a connection through their own hub.

Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport is the only airport on the Polish side, so there is no confusion about where you land. It sits within easy reach of the centre, and the usual ways in are the local train, a bus, or a taxi from outside arrivals. On the Paris end, remember that Beauvais Tille, Charles De Gaulle and Orly are far apart, so check the airport on your ticket before you plan the journey to it. If you are still choosing, Krakow and Warsaw also have flights from Paris.

• Check which Paris airport your fare leaves from, since Beauvais Tille, Charles De Gaulle and Orly are not interchangeable.
• On low-cost tickets, confirm what the fare includes for cabin and checked baggage before you pay.
• If your itinerary shows a connection, make sure both legs sit on one ticket so a delay does not leave you stranded.
• Carry a valid passport or ID card for Poland and check the entry rules that apply to you.
• Book early for September if you want the lowest fares, and compare a few dates around it.
• Confirm your transfer from Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport before you land, especially for late arrivals.
