Cheap flights from Manchester to Burgas

Prices ease off once the peak season ends: September is the cheapest month on this route, and the shoulder weeks around it usually beat the height of summer too. July and August still show dated fares here, but school holidays and beach weather keep them firmer. If your dates are fixed, compare the months the calendar covers — May through December all have prices listed — and flying midweek often nudges the fare down.

The main difference is what lands in your basket at checkout. Easyjet, Jet2, Norwegian and TUI Airways fly low-cost, where a seat is the base and checked bags cost extra; Jet2 and TUI lean towards package-style travel, British Airways sits at the full-service end with more included. Eurowings, Aer Lingus, Emerald Airlines, Lufthansa and Luxair appear as connecting options, useful if a direct departure doesn't suit your dates. Weigh the total with baggage before comparing headline fares.

Before you land, sort out how you'll get into town or along the coast. Burgas airport is close to the city, so a taxi or bus ride is short, and in the summer season the resort towns along the coast are a straightforward onward trip. Cash for small fares and a rough idea of your onward stop save trouble at the arrivals hall. Check your terminal and transfer arrangements in advance rather than on arrival.

• Confirm you're departing from Manchester International, the only airport serving the city on this route.
• Check passport and entry requirements for Bulgaria before you travel.
