Cheap flights from London to Nashville

November is the cheapest month on this route, and it lands neatly between the summer rush and the winter holiday peak. Fares climb through the summer, when London and Nashville are both in high season, and again around the big American holidays, so if your dates are loose, look at the weeks either side of November and compare midweek departures with weekend ones. For summer travel, booking well ahead gives you the widest choice; for November, you can often wait a little longer and still find room.

The carriers selling this route are mostly full-service names. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines cover the transatlantic legs, while KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Finnair, Iberia, Portug, Hahn Air and Icelandair tend to route you through their European hubs. Direct flights exist, but plenty of the options involve a change, so check whether your itinerary is a single ticket or separate ones. Baggage and seat rules differ between fare families even on the same airline, so read what is included before you pick the lowest line.

Nashville International is the city's airport, and it sits outside downtown rather than in it, so build in time for the transfer. Taxis and rideshares are the straightforward way into the centre, and some airport-area hotels run their own shuttles. If you are flying onwards inside the country, remember that you clear US immigration at your first point of entry, which may not be Nashville. Check which concourse your onward flight uses and how your bags are tagged if you switch airlines mid-trip.

• Decide which London airport you are leaving from, because the city has several and they are not interchangeable for transfers.
• Check whether your fare includes a checked bag, especially on the lighter fare families.
• If your trip is booked as separate tickets, leave a generous gap between flights in case the first one runs late.
• Make sure your passport and any US entry authorisation are valid before you pay.
• Weigh November against the summer months if your dates are flexible.
• Confirm how you will get from Nashville International into town before you land.
