Cheap flights from London to Brest

October is the cheapest month on this route, and fares often stay low through late autumn and early winter, outside the school breaks. Summer and the Christmas period are the busiest, when Brittany fills up and seats sell early. For the lowest fares, look at midweek departures rather than Friday or Sunday, and book a few weeks ahead when you can. Spring and early autumn are the sweet spot: mild weather, thinner crowds, and more room to choose which London airport you leave from.

Easyjet and Wizz Air UK are the low-cost names on this route, where the fare usually covers a seat and a small cabin bag and everything else is an add-on. Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Air Baltic sell full-service tickets, often with a connection, and more of the extras tend to be included. Whichever you pick, read the fare conditions before you pay: baggage, seat choice and changes are where the price really differs.

Flights land at Brest Bretagne, the city's airport, which sits a short drive outside the centre. The terminal is compact, so you are usually through and out quickly. A bus runs between the airport and the city, and taxis wait outside arrivals; a hire car makes sense if you plan to explore the coast. Check which London airport you are flying from before you book the onward leg, since the ride into central Brest is short but the trip across London to the right terminal is not.

Country facts: Wikidata

• Check which London airport your fare leaves from, because Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and London City are not interchangeable.
• On Easyjet and Wizz Air UK, confirm what the fare includes for bags and seats before you pay.
• If you connect through a hub on separate tickets, leave a realistic buffer for delays.
• Make sure your passport is valid for travel to France and check the entry rules that apply to you.
• Compare October fares with late autumn and winter dates before you commit.
• Think about how you will reach the airport you chose, not just the one nearest home.
