Cheap flights from London to Bergen

January is the cheapest month named for this route, while demand rises in summer and around school holidays and Christmas. Midweek flights can be easier to find than weekend departures, and the months with dated fares run from November to September. Book early for peak periods and compare a few nearby dates.

The route is served by Norwegian, Norwegian International, Wizz Air, Scandinavian Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Easyjet, LOT Polish Airlines, Edelweiss Air, Jet2 and Swiss. Some sell unbundled fares and some sell fuller tickets, and the difference is felt in baggage, seat choice, meals and rebooking rules. Direct flights exist, but connecting itineraries may be sold by carriers that route through their own hubs; check the ticket before you rely on a connection.

Arrange your onward transport before you land: Flesland is Bergen's airport and sits outside the centre, with buses, taxis and car hire as the usual options. Check which arrival area your flight uses, keep your passport and booking handy, and allow time for baggage if you have checked bags. From there, the city centre is reached by road; compare routes and times before you travel.

• Check whether your itinerary is one ticket or separate tickets, because a missed connection on separate tickets is your problem.
• Check the departure airport, since London has several and a cheap fare from one may cost more to reach.
• Check baggage rules and fees before you pay, especially on low-cost fares.
• Check passport validity and entry rules for Norway before you travel.
• Check the season you are flying in, as winter weather can affect plans.
