Cheap flights from Krakow to Tampere

December comes out cheapest on this route, which is unusual for a Christmas month, so book early if you want those fares, because seats to Finland fill up around the holidays. Autumn is the steady season: September, October and November keep prices calm and the Lakeland is quiet. February and March bring winter travellers and ski traffic, so fares climb again. Midweek departures usually cost less than Friday and Sunday flights. Flying out on a Tuesday or Wednesday and back midweek is the simplest way to shave the fare.

Nothing flies this route non-stop, so every option is a connecting itinerary, and the mix is mostly full-service. Finnair and Scandinavian Airlines offer the shortest northern connections, usually through Helsinki or Stockholm. LOT Polish Airlines routes many travellers via Warsaw, while Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss, Brussels Airlines and Air Dolomiti feed the route through their hubs in Germany, Austria, Belgium and Italy. Turkish Airlines adds a longer way round through Istanbul, and Braathens Regional Aviation covers some regional legs. What is included differs by fare family, so check baggage and seat rules before comparing prices.

Tampere-Pirkkala is the airport for this route, and it sits outside the city rather than at its edge, so plan the last leg. Buses timed to arrivals and taxis are the usual ways into central Tampere, and car hire desks are there if you are heading further into Finnish Lakeland. The terminal is small and quick to walk through, which helps on a late connection. In winter, snow can slow the transfer, so leave a margin between landing and whatever you have booked next.

Country facts: Wikidata

• Check the departure airport, since Krakow flights leave from Balice and some connections start with a different carrier than the long leg.
• Confirm what your fare includes, because the cheapest connecting tickets often exclude checked baggage.
• If the itinerary is on separate tickets, allow a long gap in case the first flight is late.
• Carry a passport or identity card valid for Finland, and check the entry rules before you fly.
• Book early for December, the month when fares on this route tend to be lowest.
• Think about the season at both ends, since Krakow winters and Finnish winters are not the same thing.
