Cheap flights from Krakow to San Jose

May is the cheapest month for this route, and the price calendar also shows fares for the autumn and winter months — September through December, then January, February and April. Spring and early summer are the busy end of the season, so booking well ahead helps. Midweek departures are usually quieter than Friday and Sunday, when business travellers fill the European hubs. Avoid the weeks around Christmas, New Year and Easter, and the American Thanksgiving period, when transatlantic fares climb. If your dates are flexible, compare a May trip against a September one before you commit.

LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, British Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Scandinavian Airlines, Austrian and Finnair all sell this route as a connecting itinerary rather than a nonstop. Cityjet and Fly Dubai turn up in the results too, usually on one leg of a longer journey. What you get for the fare depends on the carrier and on the fare family you pick, not on the brand alone — the leaner fares on the same airline come with less included. Baggage rules follow the operating carrier of each leg, so on a mixed itinerary check both airlines before you pay.

San Jose Municipal is the airport serving the city itself, so you land close to town rather than at a distant hub. Taxis, rideshare pickups and local buses are the usual ways into the centre, and the terminal is small enough to clear quickly once you are off the plane. If you connect through a bigger American airport, you clear US immigration and customs at that first point of entry, not in San Jose, and you may need to collect and re-check your bags there. Build that into your connection time and keep your onward boarding pass with you.

Country facts: Wikidata

• Krakow departs from Balice, so confirm the airport and terminal before you arrange transport to it.
• Every itinerary to San Jose involves at least one change, so check the layover length and whether all legs sit on one ticket.
• If the legs are on separate tickets, a missed connection is yours to fix, so leave generous slack between flights.
• Baggage rules follow the operating carrier of each leg, so read what your fare actually includes before paying.
• Check your passport validity and any US entry authorisation well before departure, since the paperwork is not done at the gate.
• Fares dip in May, so compare that month with the autumn and winter months shown in the calendar.
