Cheap flights from Krakow to Puerto Princesa

January is the cheapest month on this route, and the price calendar only has data from September through March, so that window is where the real comparisons live. Book inside it and you have room to wait for a dip; outside it, schedules thin out and fares get harder to read. Midweek departures usually undercut weekend ones, and the weeks around Christmas and New Year are the busiest, so those go early. The Philippine dry season also pulls visitors in, which means late-winter seats fill faster than autumn ones.

No airline flies this route non-stop, so every option is a connection. LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss, Scandinavian Airlines and British Airways are full-service carriers, so a checked bag and meals are usually part of the ticket; their hubs in Warsaw, Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich, Copenhagen and London decide how long you wait between legs. Turkish Airlines and Fly Dubai route you through Istanbul and Dubai, and Fly Dubai works on a low-cost model, so extras can cost more. Check what each fare includes before you chase the shortest layover.

You land at Puerto Princesa airport, the city's only airport, and it sits close to the centre — a short ride rather than a long transfer. Tricycles, jeepneys and taxis are the usual ways in, and fares are usually agreed before you set off rather than metered. The terminal is small, and arrivals can slow down when a few flights land together, so leave room if you have an onward plan. Keep some local cash handy for the ride and for anything you need on the first evening.

• Check that you are flying out of Balice, since Krakow has no second airport to fall back on.
• Confirm whether a checked bag is included, especially on the low-cost leg of a Fly Dubai itinerary.
• Book the whole trip on one ticket, or leave a long gap between separate bookings so a delay does not cost you the connection.
• Check entry and transit rules for the Philippines and for every country you change planes in.
• Look at the price calendar for September through March, and at January in particular, before you fix your dates.
• Decide how you will get from Puerto Princesa airport into town and have local currency ready.
