Cheap flights from Krakow to Male

November is the cheapest month on this route, sitting in the quiet stretch between the European summer rush and the Christmas holidays. Fares out of Krakow rise around Polish school breaks and long weekends, and again when the Maldives fills up over the winter sun season, so it pays to look at the price calendar month by month rather than picking a date first. Booking well ahead usually beats waiting, and midweek departures tend to price lower than weekend ones. If your plans are flexible, compare September and October against November before you commit.

Every itinerary here is connecting, and the carriers fall into two rough groups. Low-cost names such as Pegasus, Fly Dubai, Flynas and Air Arabia keep the base fare low but charge for checked bags, seat choice and food, so the total can climb quickly. Full-service carriers like Lufthansa, Etihad Airways, Scandinavian Airlines and LOT Polish Airlines fold baggage and meals into the ticket and usually offer smoother connections through their hubs. Flexflight and Hahn Air also appear on some connections. Compare what is actually included, not just the headline fare.

Velana International is the Maldives' main gateway and sits on an island of its own right beside Male, so you land a short hop from the capital rather than in it. The usual ways across are the public ferry and the bridge link, while speedboat and seaplane transfers to resort islands leave from the airport side. After a long connecting flight, leave room for that onward transfer, and check which counter or pier your boat or seaplane uses before you arrive.

• Check that you are flying from Balice, the only airport serving Krakow, before you compare fares.
• On low-cost carriers such as Pegasus, Fly Dubai or Air Arabia, add the cabin and checked baggage you need to the fare.
• If an itinerary is split across two tickets, leave a long connection and check whether you must collect and re-check your bags.
• Look up the Maldives' entry rules and passport validity requirements before you pay for anything.
• Compare November against the months either side of it in the price calendar, since that is where fares usually come down.
• Watch total journey time, not just the fare, because every option from Krakow involves at least one connection.
