Cheap flights from Krakow to Kunming

September is the cheapest month on this route, and it is also one of the more comfortable times to cross into Yunnan, when the summer rains ease and the crowds thin out. Fares stay reasonable through October and November, then climb for the December holiday rush and again around Chinese New Year, when seats to China sell out early. February and April appear in the price calendar too, so check those before you settle on a date. Midweek departures from Balice are usually quieter and cheaper than Friday or Sunday flights, and booking a few months ahead matters more here than on a short European hop.

No airline flies Krakow to Kunming non-stop, so every option here is a connecting itinerary. Full-service names such as Finnair, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, LOT Polish Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines and Luxair usually include checked baggage and meals on the long leg, and they rebook you when a delay makes you miss a connection. Air Dolomiti feeds the Lufthansa network on the shorter European legs. Fly Dubai is the low-cost option in the list: the base fare looks smaller, but bags and food cost extra, and a self-transfer can leave you buying a new ticket if the first flight slips.

Kunming airport lies outside the city, so build in time for the transfer rather than expecting a quick ride from the terminal. Airport buses and the metro are the usual ways into town, with taxis and ride-hailing quicker but dearer. Immigration can be slow when several long-haul arrivals land close together, so keep your first evening loose. Have your passport, arrival card and the address of your first night's stay to hand in case you are asked for them. Bags on a connecting itinerary sometimes travel on a later flight, so check the tag receipt and report anything missing before you leave the hall.

Country facts: Wikidata

• Check whether your itinerary is one ticket or two, because a self-transfer means collecting your bags and checking in again.
• Confirm the baggage allowance on Fly Dubai and any other low-cost leg, where a checked bag is usually an add-on.
• Look up the visa or visa-free entry rules for China well before departure, since the airline will ask at check-in in Krakow.
• Leave a generous buffer between flights if you are changing planes, as a missed connection on separate tickets is yours to fix.
• Compare September fares against February and April before booking, because the price calendar moves.
• Krakow departs from Balice only, so there is no airport choice to make on the way out.
