Cheap flights from Krakow to Kauai Island

June is the cheapest month on this route, and the price calendar also covers September through January, so the shoulder months outside the Polish summer holidays are worth a look. Flying out midweek rather than at the weekend usually brings the fare down, while the Christmas and New Year stretch is the priciest part of the winter. Kauai stays warm all year and sees more rain in the winter months, so a June trip suits both your budget and the beach.

Nothing flies non-stop from Krakow to Kauai Island, so every option is a connecting one, and the airline you pick decides where you change. Full-service carriers such as British Airways, Finnair, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa and Austrian sell the whole trip on one ticket, with a checked bag usually included on the long-haul leg. KLM Cityhopper and Lufthansa Cityline handle the shorter feeder legs within Europe, and Air Dolomiti does the same on Italian connections. Air Baltic and Fly Dubai work closer to a low-cost model, so check what the fare includes before you set it against a full-service price.

Lihue is the airport serving Kauai Island, and it sits close to Lihue town on the island's east side, a short drive from the main resort areas. Most travellers pick up a rental car at the airport, because the island's beaches and trails are spread out and public transport is limited; taxis and shuttle services cover the run into town if you would rather not drive. Remember that you clear US immigration at your first point of entry on the mainland, not at Lihue, so leave room in that connection. Hawaii also runs its own agricultural inspection on arrival, so declare any food or plants.

• Look at what baggage the low-cost legs include before you compare fares.
• Sort your US entry documents before booking, as they are needed at check-in.
• Aim for June if you want the lowest fares, and steer clear of the Christmas peak.
• Leave a comfortable buffer at your US gateway, where you clear immigration.
