Cheap flights from Krakow to Almaty

January is the cheapest month on this route, and the price calendar shows how the rest of the year compares. Winter in Kazakhstan is properly cold, so if you want Almaty in milder weather, look at late spring or early autumn and expect to pay more. Midweek departures out of Balice are usually quieter and kinder to your budget than weekend ones. Polish holidays around Christmas and the New Year, and Kazakh holidays in spring, fill seats early, so book well ahead for summer and for the December peak.

The airline mix here is wide. Air Arabia and Sun Express are the low-cost names, sitting alongside full-service carriers such as LOT Polish Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Air Astana, Finnair, Scandinavian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Air Serbia. Because nothing flies non-stop, every option means a change of plane somewhere, and the hub you pick shapes the total journey time more than the fare does. What comes with the ticket — a checked bag, a meal, seat selection — depends on the airline and the fare family, so read the conditions before you pay.

Almaty Intl Airport is the city's gateway, so there is no second airport to mix up on arrival. It sits outside the centre, and the drive in can stretch at peak hours, so leave slack if you have a train or a domestic flight onward. Taxis and app-based pickups are the usual way into town; agree the fare or order the car through an app instead of accepting an offer in the arrivals hall. Have your accommodation address ready to show the driver, and if you land late at night, sort your transfer before you fly.

• Confirm your departure airport in Krakow before you arrange transport to the terminal.
• With no direct flights, check how long the layover is and whether both legs sit on one ticket.
• If you book the legs separately, a missed connection is yours to fix, not the airline's.
• Compare the baggage allowance on low-cost tickets before you add a cabin bag.
• Check your passport validity and the visa rules for Kazakhstan well before departure.
• Use the price calendar to weigh January fares against the summer months.
