Cheap flights from Kos to Athens

Athens has long, hot summer days and mild spring evenings, so May is the cheapest month named for this route and a comfortable time for city breaks before summer heat builds. July and August bring strong sun and long daylight, while winter is cooler and calmer, and Greek public holidays or school breaks can tighten availability, so check dates before you book.

The real difference is between a simple nonstop domestic ticket and an itinerary that adds a connection, because some fares include checked baggage and seat selection while basic fares may charge for both, so read the fare rules before booking. Sky Express, Aegean Airlines, Olympic Air, Hahn Air Systems, Austrian, Eurowings Discover, Condor, Eurowings, Edelweiss Air and Brussels Airlines are named for this route, direct flights exist, and every carrier's inclusions differ by ticket type.

You land at Eleftherios Venizelos, east of Athens and outside the city centre, so plan the metro, suburban rail or express bus into town rather than assuming a short walk. Taxis and car hire are available, and if you are connecting onward, allow enough time for the airport transfer and terminal procedures.

• Check that your departure and arrival airports match the ticket, since Kos uses Ippokratis and Athens uses Eleftherios Venizelos.
• Check whether checked baggage, seat selection and changes are included before choosing the cheapest fare.
• Check connection time, terminal and baggage rules if your itinerary is not nonstop.
• Check passport validity and any entry requirements for Greece before you book.
• Check May and the summer months against your own dates, because the cheapest month may not suit your trip.
