Cheap flights from Katowice to Toronto

December is the cheapest month on this route, and the price calendar covers September through December, then March through July, with January, February and August left out. Late autumn and early spring are the quietest windows for a transatlantic hop, while the run-up to Christmas looks cheap on paper but is busy in practice, so book earlier than you think. Midweek departures are usually calmer than weekend ones, and school holidays on both sides of the ocean push fares up. If your dates are flexible, let the calendar pick the month rather than the other way round.

Wizz Air is the low-cost name on this route, so the headline fare covers little more than a seat and bags or seat choice cost extra. The full-service carriers are LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Swiss and Air Dolomiti; on those tickets a checked bag and meals are usually part of the fare. Direct seats to Toronto are limited, so plenty of itineraries connect through a European hub before the long flight to Canada.

Toronto has two airports and they are not interchangeable. Billy Bishop City A/P sits close to the downtown waterfront, which makes it the quick one if you are heading straight into the centre; Pearson International is the larger gateway, further out, and where most long-haul arrivals land. From Pearson you reach town by train, bus, taxi or rideshare, while from Billy Bishop the hop into the centre is short. Check the airport code on your ticket before you arrange a pickup, and allow extra time at Pearson for border formalities.

Country facts: Wikidata

• Katowice departures use Pyrzowice, so check that airport on your ticket before booking ground transport.
• On Wizz Air, add bags and seat selection to the fare before you compare it with a full-service ticket.
• If your trip is stitched from separate tickets, leave a long buffer in case the first leg runs late.
• Check Canada's entry requirements and make sure your passport is valid well beyond your return date.
• Confirm whether you land at Pearson International or Billy Bishop City A/P, because they are not interchangeable.
• December is the cheapest month on the calendar but also a busy one, so book early if that is your window.
