Cheap flights from Katowice to Brussels

October is the cheapest month on this route, and the price calendar here runs from September through May, so the fares you see are autumn, winter and spring ones. Late autumn and the weeks after the winter holidays are usually quieter, while the run-up to Christmas and the spring school breaks push fares up. Midweek departures tend to cost less than flying out on a Friday or coming back on a Sunday. For the October window, book a few weeks ahead if your dates are flexible — on a connecting itinerary, last-minute bookings leave you with fewer combinations to choose from.

Four carriers serve Katowice–Brussels: LOT Polish Airlines, Wizz Air, Air Dolomiti and Air Baltic. None of them fly it non-stop, so every option is a connecting itinerary, and the real difference is where you change planes and what the fare includes. LOT Polish Airlines and Air Dolomiti are the full-service side, where a checked bag and a drink or snack normally come with the ticket. Wizz Air and Air Baltic are the low-cost side, where the fare covers a small cabin bag and you pay extra for checked luggage and seat selection. Add those extras before you compare totals.

You land at Brussels Airport, the main gateway to the city and a short train ride from the centre. The station sits under the terminal and trains into town run through the day; buses are the cheaper alternative and taxis take you door to door but cost more. Because you are arriving on a connecting itinerary, your bag is normally checked through to Brussels — on separate tickets you collect it and check in again. The terminal is busiest in the morning and late afternoon, so allow time for baggage reclaim and the ride into town before you plan anything fixed.

• Check that you are leaving from Pyrzowice, the only airport serving Katowice, and leave time for the drive or bus from the city.
• Add a checked bag and seat selection to low-cost fares before you compare them with full-service tickets.
• Every itinerary on this route involves a connection, so check the layover length and whether both legs sit on one ticket.
• If you book the legs separately, leave a generous buffer in case the first flight runs late.
• Look at the price calendar for October if your dates are flexible, and check September and November as well.
• Confirm the entry rules for Belgium for your passport or ID card before you book.
