Cheap flights from Katowice to Baku

April is the cheapest month on this route, and spring fares are usually the calmest of the year. The price calendar covers September through April and picks up again in June, so the gaps fall in late spring and high summer — if your dates are fixed there, book further ahead. Midweek departures out of Pyrzowice tend to cost less than Friday and Sunday flights. The run-up to Christmas and New Year is the busiest stretch, when family visits fill the cabins. Set a fare alert and check a few dates either side of the one you want.

Three carriers serve this route: LOT Polish Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Qatar Airways. None of them is a low-cost airline, and none flies Katowice to Baku non-stop, so every option means at least one change of plane. LOT Polish Airlines and Air Dolomiti cover the European legs, with shorter total travel times and tighter connections, and their full-service fares normally include a checked bag. Qatar Airways routes you through its Gulf hub, which usually makes for a longer journey but often a keener fare and a roomier long-haul cabin. Read the fare rules for your exact ticket before you choose.

You land at Heydar Aliyev International, the main gateway to Azerbaijan and the only airport serving the capital. It sits outside Baku rather than at the edge of it, so treat the transfer as part of the journey and not an afterthought. Official taxis and app-based rides are the straightforward way in; a public bus link runs to the centre if you are travelling light and not in a hurry. Agree the fare or check the app price before you get in, and ignore anyone in arrivals who offers you a car unasked. If you land late at night, book the transfer in advance.

• Katowice flights leave from Pyrzowice, so plan your trip to the airport before you commit to an early departure.
• Every option here means a change of plane, so check whether the connection is on one ticket or two.
• Book the legs separately and a delay on the first flight is your problem, not the second airline's.
• Check the baggage allowance on the exact fare, since the cheapest ticket may not include a checked bag.
• Confirm Azerbaijan's entry rules for your passport, including visa requirements and passport validity.
• Compare April with the rest of the price calendar, as fares on this route swing from month to month.
