Cheap flights from Genoa to Barcelona

Summer and the Christmas period push fares up on this route, as holiday demand and school breaks fill seats between Italy and Spain. Working back from there, late autumn and winter ease off, with January the cheapest month on this route. Midweek departures are usually calmer than weekend ones, and booking a few weeks ahead helps for the busy stretches. Avoid leaving it late around school holidays if you need a specific flight.

On this route, the low-cost names such as Ryanair, Vueling Airlines and Volotea usually include only the seat, with cabin bags, checked bags, seat choice and priority boarding as paid extras. ITA Airways, Lufthansa, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, KLM Cityhopper, Air Dolomiti, Scandinavian Airlines and Aeroitalia are network carriers whose fares more often include baggage and a meal, though the exact inclusions depend on the ticket. Direct flights exist, but some itineraries connect through a hub, so check the total transfer time and whether baggage is checked through. Compare the same inclusions before deciding, because a cheap base fare can cost more once add-ons are included.

Getting into Barcelona from Josep Tarradellas airport is straightforward by metro, train, bus or taxi, and the ride feels like a normal city transfer rather than a long excursion. Check which terminal your flight uses and how late your arrival is, since night services are thinner. If you land at the airport named in your booking, follow signs to public transport before joining taxi queues. Keep your address handy and allow time for luggage and queues.
