Cheap flights to Canada
Cheap flights to Canada land at gateways spread right across the country, and the one you choose shapes the whole trip. Ottawa is the capital, and Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Halifax, Saskatoon, Quebec, Regina and St. Johns each open a different part of the country. Some travellers come for work, some to see family, and some to start a long drive or rail trip between the provinces.

Gateways
Choose your gateway by what the trip is for. Ottawa is the capital, so it suits a city break or meetings in the seat of government. Vancouver and Halifax are the coastal options, handy if you are heading for the water or the Atlantic provinces. Toronto, Montreal and Calgary are the big-city gateways, useful when your plans involve work, food or sport. Edmonton and Winnipeg cover the prairies, and Saskatoon, Regina, Quebec and St. Johns are quieter doors into the regions around them.

When to go
Demand peaks in summer, when families travel and the days are long and warm, and again around the winter holidays. Winter is also ski season, so fares to Calgary and Vancouver climb once the snow arrives. Spring and autumn are the calm stretches: fewer people fly, seats open up, and you often pay less for the same route. If your dates are fixed to July, August or late December, book as early as you can.
