Cheap flights Cancun to Poznan

May is the cheapest month on this route, so if your dates are open, aim there. Fares also stay reasonable through October and November, then rise for December and January, when Christmas travel fills the long-haul cabins. February and April land in between. Midweek departures from Cancun are usually quieter than weekend ones, and Tuesday or Wednesday connections tend to be easier to find. Book well ahead for the winter holidays, and watch Easter, which moves each year and lifts demand on both sides of the Atlantic.

No airline flies Cancun to Poznan nonstop, so every option here is a connecting itinerary, and the airline list is a mix. JetBlue Airways and WestJet sit at the lighter end of the market, with fares that keep extras separate. AeroMéxico, American Airlines, United Airlines, Air Canada, Avianca and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines are full-service carriers, where a checked bag is more often part of the fare. Edelweiss Air and Eurowings Discover fly leisure routes under their own baggage rules. Compare what each fare actually includes before you pick, since a cheaper base fare can cost more once bags are added.

Poznan has one airport, Lawica, so there is no second arrival point to confuse it with. It handles the city's traffic and is compact enough to walk out quickly once you clear arrivals. Buses and taxis link the terminal with the centre, and the transfer is short compared with what you have just flown. Because every itinerary here involves at least one connection, plan the last leg carefully: if your bags are checked through, you stay in the transit area at the stop, and if you booked separate tickets, you collect them and check in again. Keep your documents for Poland within reach.

• Check whether your connection is on one ticket or two, because separate tickets mean you re-check bags and carry the risk of a missed link.
• Confirm what your fare includes for checked and cabin baggage, especially on the lighter carriers.
• Have your passport and any entry documents for Poland ready before you book, and check the rules that apply to your nationality.
• Allow extra time at Cancun International, where long-haul check-in queues build up.
• Compare May against the winter months, when holiday demand pushes fares up.
• If Poznan dates look expensive, compare Warsaw, which is also served from Cancun.
