Cheap flights from Bordeaux to Baku

Book ahead for this route because every itinerary connects and the cheaper seats go first. May is the cheapest of the checked months, while July and the winter months coincide with school holidays and Christmas; October, November, January and February may offer a calmer choice if your dates are flexible. Weekday travel can help, but connection length and total travel time matter more than the departure day.

The difference you feel is between a low-cost seat-only fare and a fuller-service ticket. Easyjet and Vueling Airlines are the low-cost choices in this list; Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Iberia and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines are full-service carriers; Aer Lingus, Lufthansa City Airlines, Air Nostrum and Air Dolomiti can appear on connecting legs. Compare total travel time, connection length and what each fare includes before choosing the headline price.

Heydar Aliyev International is a large airport for a capital city, so transfers into Baku are organised but can take time, with longer walks or queues normal after a long connection. Taxis, ride-hailing and airport buses are the usual ways into town; if you arrive late, agree the fare or arrange a transfer before landing. Check which terminal you use and whether your bag is checked through, because separate tickets may mean collecting and rechecking luggage.

• Since Bordeaux has one airport, check that every booking names Merignac rather than a nearby city.
• On low-cost legs, check baggage size, seat selection and check-in fees before paying.
• If separate tickets are involved, check the connection time and whether luggage is checked through.
• Check entry and transit documents for Azerbaijan before booking, including passport validity and any visa rules that apply to you.
• Check whether the return or onward flight uses the same airlines and terminals.
• Check the month and season in the price calendar, especially around school holidays and Christmas.
