Cheap flights from Barcelona to Lublin

October is the month to watch: it's when fares on this route tend to drop. Prices also show up for September, November, December, May and August, so late spring and early autumn are gentler than the summer peak, when Polish families fly home and Barcelona fills with visitors. Midweek departures, Tuesday and Wednesday especially, are usually quieter and cheaper than Friday and Sunday. Christmas and Easter are the exceptions — connecting seats sell out early, so book well ahead if you're travelling then.

No airline flies Barcelona to Lublin non-stop, so every itinerary is a connection and you'll change planes somewhere along the way. Low-cost carriers such as Wizz Air UK, Easyjet and Vueling keep the base fare low, but the ticket covers less, so check the baggage allowance before you compare prices. Full-service names on the route, among them LOT Polish Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France, TAP Portugal and HOP!, sell the trip as a single booking more often, which matters if a leg runs late. El Al Israel Airlines also appears on some itineraries. Check what's included in each fare before you decide on price alone.

Lublin has a single airport, so there's no choice to make about where you land — you arrive at Lublin airport and head into the city from there. Buses and taxis are the usual ways in, and it's worth booking a transfer in advance if your flight lands late in the evening. If your itinerary routes you through Warsaw instead, plan the onward leg to Lublin separately, by road or rail, and allow time for it. Whichever airport you finish at, check the last departure of the day before you commit to a late connection.

• Check whether your connection is on one ticket or two, because self-transfer means you carry the risk of a missed leg.
• Confirm the baggage allowance on Wizz Air UK, Easyjet and Vueling fares, where a cabin bag may be all that's included.
• Have your passport or ID ready for entry to Poland and check the current rules before you fly.
• Book early for travel around Christmas and Easter, when connecting seats fill up.
• Compare October fares against September and November if your dates are flexible.
• Leave enough time between flights, since a short connection can undo a cheap fare.
