Vigra AES
Cheap flights from Alesund start at Vigra (AES), the city's airport, and because no other airport is listed for Alesund the practical choice is usually when and with whom to fly rather than where to leave. Vigra handles routes to popular destinations such as Gdansk, Oslo, Warsaw, Krakow, Chisinau, Alicante, Amsterdam and Bucharest, with carrier choice and fare levels shifting by route and season. For the best value, compare midweek and weekend departures, look several weeks ahead for school holiday periods, and avoid leaving booking until the last minute on the busiest routes.

Getting to the city
Since Vigra is Alesund's airport, the transfer is part of every trip and worth planning before booking, with the usual choices being an airport bus, taxi or hire car depending on arrival time and luggage. Allow extra time at peak periods, check return services if you land late, and avoid a tight onward plan that depends on everything running to the minute. Booking a little further ahead also leaves more room to match flights with sensible arrival and departure times.
